Susie celebrates an amazing 35 years of service at Fitzwilliam
Gynaecology nurse, Susie Mears, celebrated 35 years working at Fitzwilliam Hospital last month. In recognition of her commendable longstanding service, Susie was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a badge certificate and vouchers by her Outpatient Manager Fran Taylor.
Susie joined Fitzwilliam Hospital in 1984, a year after it’s opening. She qualified as a nurse in 1980 and became a District Nurse before being recruited into a more team-based role at Fitzwilliam Hospital.
‘Throughout my nursing career I have been drawn to gynaecology in particular, from my placements as a student nurse through to working with inspirational and patient-centred gynaecology consultants. I have built on my knowledge and confidence over the years. We often see returning patients who we have built a relationship previously. Our new patients benefit from having a nurse contact, who they can ring the next day if they need to, so they don’t feel on their own. I have also been fortunate to work with some wonderful colleagues over the years and the ‘Fitzwilliam family’ offers great friendship, support and team comradery whilst offering the opportunities to develop and learn. I have seen Fitzwilliam Hospital grow and evolve over the years and in my area, this has brought the redevelopment of outpatients and a gynaecology treatment room to improve our patient’s experience’ says Susie.
