Breast reduction at Fitzwilliam Hospital
Breast reduction surgery is often called mammoplasty or boob reduction. It is cosmetic surgery to reduce the size and weight of your breasts and it can also enhance your breast shape.
Large breasts can cause a number of issues for women. These include pain in the back, shoulders or neck, difficulty participating in some sports, trouble finding well-fitting clothes and, self-consciousness coupled with unwanted attention. A breast reduction aims to take these problems away.
Your surgeon will make an incision on the line of your areola and a vertical cut underneath it. They will remove excess breast tissue, fat and skin and, lift your nipple to a higher position. This is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes approximately an hour and a half.
